10 Commandments of Disabilities

  1. Show respect for everyone and look at abilities, not disabilities.
  2. Show love for everyone. Make kindness a rule.
  3. Do not avoid people because they are blind, deaf, or disabled. Instead, seek them out and include them in your world.
  4. Remember, the special "rest" of the Sabbath belongs to God's special children and to those who care for them. Especially on the Sabbath look around and say, "Where are all of God's children?" Make certain your house of worship is equipped for the handicapped.
  5. Honor the families of those who provide care and love for all God's children. Keep them in your prayers.
  6. Life is sacred. Protect it.
  7. Let pure motives be your guide as you serve those who face special challenges.
  8. Protect the privacy and honor the personhood of those whose circumstances make 'easy' things hard, so cheer them on.
  9. Look at the possibilities in everyone. Do not discourage them from pursuing their dreams, but frame their hopes in love and kindness.
  10. Help the blind to see Jesus.
